ranges from first aid, CPR, AED, swimming and lifeguarding
to caregiving programs like babysitter’s training.

Blended
Learning Program
In
keeping with today's fast-paced information age, the
American Red Cross of the Mohawk Valley announces its
participation in the Blended Learning First Aid/CPR/AED
Program - a new way to offer Red Cross first aid, adult
CPR and automated external defibrillation (AED) training.
Red Cross Blended
Learning is flexible and self-paced. Best of all,
is available online 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Participants have the option of going through the lessons
in full or abbreviated form and can test out of lessons
as well. Web-based training enables course-takers to
access courses at their convenience. To register or

Wilderness First Aid
Learn the skills, when help is delayed. This class meets the requirements for NYS Sanitary Code for Health Directors at children's camps. Please see http://www.health.state.ny.us/environmental/outdoors/camps/firstaid.htm

First
Aid, CPR and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Courses:
Standard
First Aid
Learn the skills needed to prevent, recognize and provide
basic care for injuries and sudden illnesses until advanced
medical personnel arrive. Useful take-home course materials
help you retain skills and serve as reference tools in
an emergency. Meets OSHA First Aid Guidelines.
Standard
First Aid with CPR/AED-Adult
In addition to CPR and First Aid, this course also includes
training in using an automated external defibrillator
(AED) on a victim of sudden cardiac arrest.
Adult CPR
For individuals who need adult CPR training only, this
hands-on skills training prepares students to respond
to breathing and cardiac emergencies in adults. Students
take home refresher skills materials.
Adult CPR/AED
This CPR course also includes training using an automated
external defibrillator (AED) on a victim of sudden cardiac
arrest.
Infant
and Child CPR
Designed for babysitters, teachers, parents and others
who care for children, this course teaches participants
how to recognize and care for breathing and cardiac emergencies
in infants and children up to 12 years of age. Participants
take home a participant manual.
Adult,
Child & Infant CPR
This hands-on skills training prepares students to respond
to breathing & cardiac emergencies in adults, children
& infants. Students take home refresher skills cards.
CPR/AED-Adult & Child plus Infant CPR
This hands-on skills training prepares students to respond
to breathing & cardiac emergencies in adults, children
& infants as well as training in using both an Adult
& Pediatric AED. Students take home refresher skills
cards.
Standard
First Aid with CPR/AED-Adult & Child plus Infant CPR
Combines CPR and first aid training to teach participants
to recognize and care for breathing and cardiac emergencies
in infants, children and adults; perform first aid for
cuts, scrapes, bruises, burns, bleeding, sprains and strains;
treat sudden illnesses, including poisonings and heat
and cold emergencies; minimize the effect of shock; recognize
emergencies and take action; and understand the role of
AEDs (both Adult & Pediatric) in the Cardiac Chain
of Survival. Useful textbook helps students retain skills
and serves as a reference tool in an emergency.
First Aid-Responding
to Emergencies
Provide the citizen responder with the knowledge and skills
necessary in an emergency to help sustain life and minimize
the consequences of injury or sudden illness until advanced
medical help arrives.
This program is designed primarily for use in secondary
schools, colleges, universities and other settings that
require a curriculum of greater length than the American
Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED Program.
*We need at least 10 people enrolled in this class to schedule
a course.
*If taking this course, please note that CPR training must also be scheduled, (see above).
** Note: Wilderness First Aid can be used in place of this class for some occupations. Please consult NYS Department of Health Regulations.

Care Provider Classes
Infant & Child First Aid for the Child Care Provider
This training provides Child Care Providers with insight as to how
the care giver further accident-proof the child care setting,
prevent & prepare for emergencies and how to administer
first aid when a child is injured.

for the Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider
American Red Cross professional rescuer courses are designed
for people with a job-related duty to respond in an emergency,
including nurses, law enforcement and EMS personnel, fire
fighters, business and industry response teams, lifeguards,
flight attendants, and others who must take action in
emergency situations.
CPR/AED for the Professional
Rescuer and Healthcare Provider
CPR/AED for Lifeguards
Combines participant's manual, lectures and video with
hands-on skills training to cover the following areas:
- Recognizing and responding to breathing
and cardiac emergencies in adults, children
and infants
- Two-rescuer CPR
- Use of body substance isolation
precautions to prevent disease transmission
- Use of resuscitation and bag-valve
masks
- Use of an AED for a victim of
sudden cardiac arrest

Pathogens Training: Preventing Disease Transmission
A two-hour training module for individuals who, while
on the job, may be exposed to blood or other body fluids
that could cause infection.

Training Course
Babysitter's Training
If you're 11 to 15 years old, you can get the knowledge,
skills and confidence to care for infants and school-age
children. Combining video, activities, hands-on skills
training and discussion for a complete learning experience,
Babysitter's Training shows you how to:
- Respond to emergencies and illnesses
with first aid, rescue breathing and other appropriate
care
- Make decisions under pressure
- Communicate with parents to learn
household rules
- Recognize safety and hygiene issues
- Manage young children
- Feed, diaper and care for infants

Scouts of the U.S.A., Boy Scouts of America, YMCA
of the U.S.A., Boys and Girls Clubs, JCC Association

Lifeguard Management This course provides participants with the knowledge and skills needed to effectively manage lifeguards and to create an environment that keeps patrons, lifeguards and the aquatic facility safe. This course meets the NY State Health Department Supervision requirement.
Basic Water Rescue: This course meets the requirements for NY State Guides. The purpose of the course is to provide individuals with information and skills necessary to prevent , recognize, or respond to aquatic emergencies.
Guard Start- Lifeguarding Tommorrow: The purpose of this course is to provide youth with a foundation of aquatic and leadership knowledge, attitudes and skills for the future successful completion of the Red Cross Lifeguarding Courses. Students will gain Adult CPR/AED and First Aid Basics Certification.
Pre-requisites are as follows:
* swim the front crawl for 25 yards continuously while breathing to the front or side
*tread water for 1 minute using arms and legs
*submerge and swim a distance of 10 feet underwater

The world of aquatics has played a vital role in the Red
Cross for over 100 years.
Safety Training for Swim Coaches (Water portion only)
To enroll in this fast-track option, participants must have completed the Safety Training for Swim Coaches online written exam on USA Swimming website and must bring the confirmation e-mail with you.

Become
a CPR/First Aid Instructor
Our train-the-trainer programs allow you to become a Red
Cross instructor and train others to save lives. To become
an instructor, follow these steps:
- Contact the American Red Cross
of the Mohawk Valley and complete an Application
for Authorization to Teach Form. A current basic
level course certificate for the course you
are interested in teaching is recommended.
- Take Fundamentals of Instructor
Training. This four-hour course is a prerequisite
to all Red Cross instructor specialty courses.
It is designed to offer potential Red Cross
instructors an opportunity to become familiar
with the services of the American Red Cross
as well as basic teaching techniques.
- Complete Instructor training for the appropriate course.
